Interactive Email for Employee Pulse Surveys

A pulse survey only works if people actually answer it, and a link to yet another HR tool is exactly the kind of thing that gets snoozed. Put a couple of one-tap Rating questions directly in the email instead, save a longer quarterly check-in for a short Form, and let a recurring send handle the weekly cadence on its own.

Quick pulse check — how's this month going?

A pulse survey only works if people actually answer it — a link to a separate HR platform is exactly the kind of thing that gets snoozed. Put one or two one-tap Rating questions directly in the email instead, and let a recurring send handle the weekly cadence automatically.

Engagement surveys fail for a boring reason: friction. A five-minute survey tool asks for a login, a page load, and a context switch — three chances to close the tab before answering. A single Rating tap removes all three.

Keep the recurring pulse to one tap

A Rating block records a scale question — "How supported do you feel this month?" — the instant someone clicks, with no page to load first. That's the right shape for a weekly check-in: one question, answered in seconds, rolling straight into a trend line so a single low week reads correctly as one data point rather than a crisis.

Save the longer questions for a slower cadence

Not every question fits in one tap. A multi-page Form covers the deeper quarterly or annual engagement survey — 12 question types from a linear scale to open text — without turning your weekly pulse into homework. Keep the pulse on its own weekly recurring send, and send the longer check-in as a one-off (recurring sends only support daily or weekly, not a quarterly cadence).

Put it on autopilot

A recurring send handles the cadence itself — daily or weekly, against your employee contact list — so the same short check-in goes out without a manual re-send each time. An Accordion above the questions can carry context (what the score is used for, or a link to last round's results) without stretching the email.

Catch a concerning score early

Set a low-score alert threshold on the Rating block and a response at or below it notifies you immediately, rather than waiting for the next scheduled rollup. That's the difference between hearing about a problem this week versus next quarter.

Getting started

Add a Rating block for the recurring pulse question, and set up a recurring send against your employee list. Reserve a multi-page Form for a separate, longer check-in on a slower cadence, and set a low-score alert threshold so a concerning answer reaches you right away.

A typical build-and-send sequence

  1. 1

    Build the check-in

Add one or two Rating blocks for the recurring pulse question, and reserve a multi-page Form for the longer quarterly version.

  2. 2

    Put it on a schedule

Set up a recurring send, daily or weekly, against your employee contact list so the same short check-in goes out automatically, with no manual re-send.

  3. 3

Watch the trend, not just one score

Every rating rolls into an average with a trend line over time, so a single low week reads correctly as one data point rather than the whole story.

  4. 4

    Catch a low score early

Set a low-score alert threshold on the Rating block so a concerning response notifies you right away instead of waiting for the next rollup.

Frequently asked questions

Are responses anonymous?

No — MailInApp doesn't have a separate anonymous-survey mode. Responses are recorded per recipient the same way any other send is, so only you as the account owner can see who a given response is linked to on the Responses dashboard. If true anonymity is a requirement, a pulse survey isn't the right fit; treat the low-score alert and trend data as a manager-facing tool instead.

Can the same short question go out automatically without a monthly manual re-send?

Yes, on a daily or weekly cadence — recurring sends don't offer a monthly option, so a weekly schedule against your employee contact list is the closest fit for a monthly-feeling pulse; no manual re-send needed once it's set up.

Can I mix a quick one-tap question with an occasional longer survey?

Yes — keep the recurring pulse to one or two Rating taps, and send a separate multi-page Form on a slower cadence (quarterly, say) for anything that needs more than a one-tap answer.

Do employees need to leave their email to answer?

Not for the Rating tap — that records instantly right in the email. A multi-page Form opens a short step-by-step page instead, since paging through several questions needs a bit more than an email alone can do.

Can I get notified immediately if someone reports feeling unsupported?

Yes — set a low-score alert threshold on the Rating block and a response at or below it notifies you right away, rather than only showing up in the next scheduled rollup.
